Boost-Up

A summer and after school program
for children with reading problems

Learning difficulties for many bright children first show up in the early grades when they are learning to read.  Frustration, feelings of failure, withdrawal or behavior problems often come next.  This doesn’t have to happen.

Children are starting school without developing readiness skills necessary to learn to read.  We need physical balance.  We need to be able to tract from left to right, up and down with our eyes.  We need to be able to sit still and focus at the same time.  These are just some of the skills we learn long before we ever enter kindergarten.

Some children need help developing these skills.  When tutoring and extra study assignments only help a little, we need to work on the underlying problem.  Boost-Up is a learning enhancement program designed to help children in grades kindergarten – eighth improve their reading skills.

Children work with specially trained staff in small groups for two-and-a-half hour sessions Monday-Friday.  Many tell their parents it’s mostly play, which is true.  But Boost-Up games and exercise have been carefully designed to improve physical, visual and hearing skills that unlock the power of reading.

On average, children completing a summer Boost-Up session gain 6 to 8 months in reading vocabulary and comprehension.  Self-esteem and grades go up, and school becomes fun again.
