Children’s Academy for Neurodevelopment & Learning

Parents are the key!

By Toni Hager, NDS 1999

Parents who come to the Children’s Academy for Neurodevelopment & Learning discover two scarcely known truths.

First, parents discover solutions to their child’s learning, attending and/or behavior problems, when others have said there is none. Parents are empowered and given the knowledge and expertise to have direct involvement eliminating their child’s neurodevelopment dysorganization. Parents lose the feeling of being incapable and assume an active role in the growth and development of the child finding the answers they have been looking for gaining results they have been longing for.

Parents are given a written (in-home) program designed especially for their child’s specific developmental needs. With it, parents learn and understand what to teach, when to teach, and how often using a specific frequency (how many times per day), intensity (the activity itself), and duration (how many minutes).  They know exactly what they are trying to accomplish with their child. A new program is written every four months to up-date and modify as the neurological dysorganization is eliminated.

Secondly, A special bonding relationship evolves like few things can. Both,  parent and child, discover the child’s strengths as the weaknesses are eliminated.  A sense of commitment and love develop as the child understands, “My parents are truly interested in my development.”  He discovers, “My parents really do want me around. “  The parent discovers their child has unlimited potential and is really a great human being.

Parent and child feel proficient and worthwhile.
Parents learn they can meet the child’s developmental challenges.
When they combine their love, commitment, and unmatched dedication
 the child develops a self-worth and self-esteem.

In contrast, most parents of children struggling to learn or those accelerated or gifted do not know where to find the answers concerning how to meet the special needs of their child.  In their search, they spend a small fortune as they drift from professional to professional achieving disappointing results and feeling more confused than ever. What makes matters worse is that through these visits they are made to feel not only inadequate to directly help their own child, but as obstacles that stand in the way of the child’s progress.  The general professional view is they must attempt to help the child in spite of the parent, instead of using their best resource and person closest to the child.  Feeling frustrated, these parents usually give up on finding the root cause; this affects the child’s potential.

The formula is parental commitment combined with knowledge, training, empowerment, and on-going support found at CAN LEARN!

Indeed parents are key to their child’s successful future.

PARENTS NOTE: "Programs and activities are recommendations only and are not medical, therapeutic or psychological prescriptions. They are based on the experience of a Neurodevelopmentalist and represent suggestions to the family. Every parent needs to assume the responsibility for their own child and make their own decisions as to the techniques and methodologies to use with their child. "
